Resurrection
Resurrection occurs when a character who has fallen below 0 HP is restored to life, either by a skilled healer or a magical spell. There are mechanical repercussions to being brought back.
If a character’s HP falls below 0 but remains above the Death Threshold, resurrection causes a loss of 1 point in 4 traits. To determine which traits are affected, the player rolls for all traits; the four lowest results are permanently reduced by 1 point.
Example: A character with a base HP of 45 falls unconscious at 0 HP. HP continues to drop by 1 per hour until reaching -45. If the character is resurrected before reaching the Death Threshold, the four lowest traits are each reduced by 1 point permanently.
If a character’s HP falls below the Death Threshold, they are considered permanently dead unless extremely rare means are used to bring them back. In such a case, all traits are permanently reduced by 4 points, reflecting the extreme cost of returning from true death.
Example: A character whose HP drops below the Death Threshold is brought back using extreme magic. Every trait suffers a permanent reduction of 4 points, reflecting the severe cost of returning from true death.
Note: Falling below 0 HP temporarily places the character in a Swooned state, while falling below the Death Threshold applies the Dead condition.
