Speed (Spd) represents how fast an action takes place and is added directly to the initiative roll to determine when that action occurs during a round. Speed is typically associated with a weapon, a spell, or another specific action.
Weapons and spells generally have the following Speed ranges:
- Fast weapons or quick spells: Speed +1–5
- Medium weapons or most spells: Speed +6–10
- Slow weapons or complex spells: Speed +11–15
Other common actions in a round can also have an associated Speed value:
- Shouting a warning or giving a command: Speed +1
- Drawing or sheathing a weapon: Speed +2
- Dodging or stepping aside: Speed +3
- Using a small item from a belt or pouch: Speed +4
- Drinking a potion: Speed +5
- Reloading a ranged weapon (crossbow, etc.): Speed +10
- Preparing or setting a trap: Speed +15
