Surprise Roll

Surprise Roll determines whether a character or creature is caught off guard when a situation calls for it, such as an ambush or the sudden appearance of a threat. A Surprise Roll is not required at the beginning of every round, but only when the GM determines that surprise may occur.

Each character has a Surprise value ranging from 0 to 20.

To resolve surprise, roll a d20. If the result is below the character’s Surprise value, the character gains the Surprised condition. If the result is equal to or above the value, the character is not surprised.

A character’s Surprise value may be improved by certain abilities, talents, level of experience, and Wisdom.
