Attack Roll (AR)

An attack roll (AR) determines the success of a character’s physical attack, including melee strikes and projectiles. Roll a d20 and try to meet or exceed the target value, which represents the character’s current attack capability. Higher AR values make success more difficult.

The attack roll is made by the player using a d20. On a successful roll, normal damage is inflicted. On a failed roll, half damage is dealt. Other factors, such as terrain, status effects, abilities, or other situations, may influence the outcome. For details on specific adjustments, see AR adjustments.

If the result is a natural 20 or a natural 1, the player immediately makes an additional roll on the appropriate table: Critical Hit for a natural 20, or Critical Miss for a natural 1. These tables are handled by the Game Master (GM), who shares the results of the second roll; the roll itself is made by the player.

Example: A character with an AR of 15 must roll 15 or higher on a d20 to hit. A lower roll still inflicts half damage.

Progression by Level

As characters gain experience, AR improves: every 2 levels, the base AR increases by 1. Bonuses may also come from talents, expertise in combat skills, or equipped items.
