Adjustments to AR
The following situations impose an adjustment to the Attack Roll (AR). A positive adjustment makes the roll more difficult, representing a penalty to the attacker.
In most situations, apply only the most significant relevant modifier. Multiple adjustments should only be combined when they arise from clearly distinct sources.
- Higher Ground: −5 AR
- Lower Ground: +5 AR
- Attacking While Running: +10 AR
- Target Moving Erratically: +10 AR
- Target Surprised: −10 AR
- Target Prone: −10 AR (melee) / +10 AR (ranged)
- Very Poor Visibility: +10 AR (darkness, heavy fog, smoke)
- Attacker Severely Wounded: +10 AR
- Improvised Weapon: +5 AR
- Unfamiliar Weapon: +5 AR
- Extreme Disadvantage: +20 AR
- Perfect Setup: −20 AR
Ranged Weapons
- Light Obstruction: +5 AR (thin foliage, light smoke)
- Heavy Obstruction: +10 AR (dense foliage, narrow gaps)
- Target Partially Covered: +5 AR (half cover, shield edge, low wall)
- Target Heavily Covered: +10 AR (three-quarters cover, arrow slit)
- Long Range: +5 AR (beyond optimal range)
- Extreme Range: +10 AR (maximum effective range)
- Shooting Into Melee: +5 AR
